Union Jack Crate

In honor of our upcoming trip to the British Isles, I thought it was only fitting to try my first Union Jack project.  This was quick and easy, and I've already sent this crate off to the shop.

I found the crate at a neighborhood sale.  I love any kind of wooden box, and I love to paint the plain Jane ones that I find.

This probably isn't the correct blue because I used a blue I had on hand that I thought might work.  I only put the image on the front side because that's all you will basically see.

This is what the crate looked like when I found it.  The man from the sale looked at me in disbelief that anyone would want this thing, but I purchased it from his wife.

I masked off the image with painter's tape and painted in the little triangles with blue.  Then I stripped off the tape and painted in my white.  Then I masked off the middle of the white to make my red stripes.  The rest of the crate got a new coat of blue paint.  I love my Union Jack crate and I'm sure this will not be my last project with Jack.  Thanks for stopping by.

Bet if I made something with a Union Jack on it for my one son he'd quit saying the stuff I've been making makes our house look "old".
