Bistro Menu Boards

Here are my latest menu boards inspired by my recent trip to Paris.  I tried to give these a bit of European charm by using the black and gold.  My husband thought they were for a wedding because of the cake but that was just something I added instead of my usual wreath appliques.  They are touting pastries and cocoa and the like so a cake seemed fitting.  However, he did give me an idea for a wedding reception sign.  My wheels are turning now.

To transfer the cake image onto the board, I traced a cake image I already had and then painted it in.  I put some swirls on the cake to give it some detail.
Although much of these are stenciled, most of the creativity comes from designing these signs.  All my work is one of a kind.  I never repeat the same sign twice.
The base of these signs are my usual cabinet doors found at the salvage yard.  Then I get to work on an idea for the theme, the design and the background colors.
Thanks for dropping by for a visit.  I hope you are inspired to put your thinking cap on to create a one of a kind something or other of your own.

Your signs are awesome, love them, your blog. I can hardly wait to see what you've done when I see I have a post from you.
Wow, you must be reading my mind. I'd gotten a cupboard door awhile back at Habitat, had an idea at that time what I wanted to do with it but then changed my mind. I figured eventually one of you wonderful bloggers would lead me to what I wanted to do and you sure did. It seems I can always count on the talents of you wonderful bloggers.
This is the 2nd. time tonight I've gotten an idea from blogs as to what to do with things I've purchased for projects.
I too don't do the same thing twice. It's like once I do something one way I'm done with it. have to go with new ideas. I don't have a blog but I love to make things for our home or friends and family.

Love 'em, Maggie! Love the black background and the gold details. You've really done a great job especially with layering the stencils.

Coming up with a design is the hardest part of sign painting, and you've got a real knack for it! Your bistro signs are wonderful and I can hardly wait to see the wedding sign which I know won't be far behind!
