Flown the Coop

Today is the big day.  We are heading to London which is no small feat to leave my garden during the hottest time of the year.  I have to have someone stay here just to water and watch our beloved dog.   I just know the Queen would love for me to join her for tea, but unfortunately my calendar is booked solid.  I'll just have to wave as we drive by.  Before we head out, I just wanted to share these beautiful doves that dropped by to visit me last weekend.

I was out in front doing a little yard work and I looked up and saw this pair of doves watching me.  Pretty soon they were joined by a third dove.

I have never seen doves in our area and especially ones as bold as these were.  They let me get pretty close and never even flinched when I crept closer and closer to get my photographs.

I'm pretty sure they spotted my Christmas geese that live in the side yard.
They probably thought this was a pretty great place to roost so they thought they would join the party.

I'm partying at...

Those are mourning doves. We have them all over in WI. Unfortunately, they don't have the fear factor that most birds have so they are prey to cats, etc. They are also ground birds and build their (sloppy) nests close to the ground where a good wind will blow them apart. I love them though and they make the most beautiful, mournful cooing sound.

Have fun- I am sure you are on your way now- xo Diana

The Queen doesn't know what she's missing! You could decorate a room or two at the palace.

Have a great time.
