Pressed Back Chair Makeover

I found this press backed chair a couple of weeks ago. It was in great condition except that the cane seat had caved in. I knew this would be an easy fix so I brought it home.

I painted it with Annie Sloan's Old White color, and when I say that, I used all of my Annie Sloan paint, but I loved the color so I took it to Lowe's and had it color matched. This way I had the option of making my own chalk paint or going with latex which is way more economical from a seller's standpoint. This was painted with latex paint.

Below is the chair as I found it.

This was an older chair, not a reproduction from the 80's. The cane was so brittle that an ordinary kitchen knife sliced right through when I removed the old cane.

My husband cut a new seat out of a small piece of wood and glued it down on the old seat. Later I had him add a few nails with heads just for decorative purposes.

I do love this style chair when it's painted, but I prefer them to be sanded back to expose some of the details. This is perfect for a farm house decor.

Grain Sack Patio Table Makeover

This has been another week of spinning my wheels. Every project I have needs to have a missing part replaced. Tables without tops, chairs without seats, and chairs without backs. None of them are particularly difficult projects, it's just lining up the needed parts to complete the job.

My friend purchased this cute patio piece at the flea market and it was missing its top. I'm sure it was a glass top. I kept insisting she let my husband make a top for it out of scrap wood, but not wanting to bother him with her projects, she gifted the piece to me. My husband is used to being bothered with my projects so I had no trouble asking for help.

Of course, we had scrap wood on hand so he cut a piece to fit inside the lip of the table where the original top once sat. I couldn't bear to leave the top plain so I wanted to add some details. I love red and white in a cottage garden and I am in heavy duty grain sack mode so I decided to give this a little striping detail.

I've had major problems lately with paint lifting from wood tops when I go to stripe so I have been using this invaluable stencil. I found it at a yard sale, but I have seen this very stencil in the craft stores even recently. I tape off the width of the stripe I want to paint, then I move the stencil to catch the parts that were missed. This is not necessary on fabric because the tape method on fabric works the best.

If you happen to come across a piece like this and you don't want to invest in glass and you don't have a handy husband, Home Depot and Lowe's will cut your wood to size if you give them the measurements. Because my piece was perfectly aged with chippy white paint, I sanded my top way back to make it look worn. Pretty Aqua Trestle Table

I found this trestle table recently, and I liked the height and the size. I thought this could be used for so many things such as a night table, accent table, tiny desk. So many ways this could be utilized.

It started out as a wood table that needed some major TLC. My husband sanded it back and put some pretty aqua paint on it. I didn't shabby it or put a graphic on it because for resale some people just want it plain so plain it stayed.
