First of all, thanks to all of you who responded to my plea for help on my blog problems. I still can't get into my blog from my dashboard. I have cleared my browsing history, changed my password and logged in and out several times. I am doing this post on my little netbook computer which is a total pain. If you have anymore ideas I would love to hear them.
Now onto today's post. I found two of these cute little benches at the salvage yard. They were wood and really beat up. I dug through my images and my stash and found some Jeanne d' Arc paper napkins I had purchased from The Beautiful Life a few months back. My husband painted the benches Annie Sloan Old White, and I then made laser copies of the napkins and lined the images up across the top of the bench and on the sides. Then I once again did my transfer method of the reverse mod podge. You are all probably getting tired of me doing this same transfer procedure over and over, but I keep coming up with new ideas so I can't help myself.
It was kind of like playing with paper dolls. I even left the Jeanne d' Arc logo on as I graffitied this old bench. It reminds me of those construction sites where they line up the same poster over and over like wallpaper.
I took the paint scraper to the bench before I put the images on to bring out the chips and dings and to restore some of the rustic feeling this bench had from years of use.
I've had this little bench sitting outside in the sun for a couple of weeks and so far no fading has occurred.
I had one comment from someone on my flower pots that expressed concern for what would happen when these images get wet or are exposed to moisture. Here is my theory, and I wish I had taken photos of some pots on my patio that have been sitting out there since Thanksgiving that have showed no sign of any fading. When you do a reverse decoupage or mod podge, whatever you want to call it, you are putting the glue onto the image. It's a laser image. Then you put it face down on your project and then take the layers of paper off leaving the image in the hardened glue.
I bet you didn't know that one sheet of Xerox paper has several layers, but it does. I think this little bench came out great and it's a departure from all of my flowered projects I've been doing lately which I hope to share in the upcoming week.
Thanks so much for visiting.

ReplyDeleteMaggie I love this! It is wonderful. Sorry about your computer problems.
ReplyDeleteYour computer problems must be very frustrating! Sounds like you've been blocked out by Google? Love your benches and your creativity. And, I'm not tired of your flowers! Lynda
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your computer problems! I can certainly feel your frustration, as you know. I sure hope a solution presents itself somehow. The bench is gorgeous though! At least you're drowning your sorrows in work and not wine! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat turned out great, Maggie. Love it-hope you can get your issues worked out- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Maggie! I love it in the garden, too.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your computer problems. When I think a program is the problem, I go into the Control Panel, and Uninstall them. Maybe you can do that with the Google one.
I love it Maggie! Paper napkins..who'd of thought? Oh yeah..you! I hope you get your computer issues solved soon.

I don't get tired of it! I think it came out fantastic. It is a great graphic but you know how to do it right!
ReplyDeleteI was reading some of the comments, I learn alot that way if I've been behind on reading posts, which I usually am. Anyway one said about you copying a napkin for the image you used? Awesome. You are very talented gal, mind sending some to me? I love the stripes over design, great look.
ReplyDeleteLove benches like yours as we used to make them, still have some smaller ones and one bigger one that hubs made at least 10 yrs ago or more. They hold up forever. Good little footstools, sit on, put plants on, you name it. We're thinking of making them again, think it might be a popular item. I'm always looking at style of benches when I see them so we can vary what we make.
Sure hope you get your computer problems resolved, it's gotta be one of the most frustrating life dilemmas. Happy days
Your bench turned out lovely! So talented you are! Sorry you are having computer problems. I am no help whatsoever! Nancy
ReplyDeleteOh Maggie, I wish I had a solution for your problem. There is a lot of computer whizzes out there for blogs, have you inquired about maybe paying one of them to help. I hate this for you! But, I love your bench!!
