Mirror Chalkboard on the Wall
I know I keep talking about my great finds at that sale a couple of weeks ago, but I am still wading through the wonderful stash I accumulated from that one sale. I found this incredible frame there, but a huge section of the top had become detached. Being the great junker the seller was, she had the good sense to tape the broken piece to the mirror.
Large mirrors are not selling for us right now, but chalkboards are so my first thought was what a great chalkboard this would be. My husband kept after me about what we were going to do with the mirror and after contemplation I decided to paint the back side of the mirror with the chalkboard paint. That way, if anyone did want to convert this back to a mirror, they would have the option to do so. That also meant I wouldn't have to throw the mirror away. An old mirror with no frame is not any good to anyone.
Doesn't this remind you of the tale of Snow White? It does me. You can see from the before photo where my husband glued and patched. The whole right side of the carving had broken off. I think this is a beautiful vintage frame. You certainly don't find them like this anymore. The frame itself is a beautiful work of art.
Thanks for visiting.

Maggie! This is beautiful!! It's a little bit like the big gold mirror I have. I wish I'd do something with it. You're so good!! The chalkboard looks great!

Good find, Maggie. and, I love your idea of saving the mirror with chalkboard on back. Lynda
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful, Maggie! Smart of the seller to keep the broken piece with it. I like that you painted the backside and kept the mirror.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea to save the mirror - especially in an oval frame - that would have been tough to replace. I love it painted white.
ReplyDeleteGreat find Maggie I LOVE oval frames. And that detail on yours is so pretty!Great chalkboard transformation!

How pretty, Maggie! One of my favorite things to do is find neat vintage framed mirrors and turn the backs into chalkboards. Guess great minds think alike:)!
ReplyDeleteSuper smart idea Maggie. Who doesn't love a new chalkboard. I wish I could have them in every room.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous frame! I'm glad you and your hubby were able to bring it back to life. :)
