Bathing Beauties

Whenever I find old beach and swimsuit photos I always snap them up.  I love to look at the old style bathing suits.  Here are the ones I have found so far.  Some are a little blurry but the styles of the suits and the hair say it all.

Signs of Summer

I feel like I'm loafing this week.  I haven't done any projects, but my house is nice and clean and I have family visiting from out of town.  Next week I'll get back to my normal routine.

In the meantime, I thought I would share some of these old looking signs.  I don't think any of them are terribly old, but they are fun summer signs and they certainly have that vintage feel, don't they?

This is my favorite.  I love ice cream!
This root beer sign is in a little better condition.  Still very summery with the baseball player.
Okay, now I have to pick up some root beer at the store and some vanilla ice cream.  Root beer floats are such a treat.  Reminds me of being a kid again.
This one might be the oldest.  You can barely make out the Hostess Twinkies logo because it is so faded.

Thanks for dropp'n in.  I'm linking to the following parties.

Old Glory

Today I wanted to share my favorite flags and prints.  Just to let you know, I set these out on our planter in the front yard.  They are resting on the stone work, but not on the ground.  From our family to yours, we hope you have a safe and wonderful Independence Day celebration no matter what you have planned.

God Bless America!

Flea Market Treasures

Yesterday I went to one of my favorite flea markets to pick up some furniture for my space at Aubergine Emporium.  I spotted a space that was selling a lot of little items and decided to take a look.  I already took the large smalls to the shop and forgot to photograph them but here are some of my goodies.  I love vintage ephemera items, anything with advertising and I love personal items like old perfume bottles with graphics etc.  I also love typography.  So here is a sampling of what I found.

Two vintage powder boxes.  I love the graphics on these.

This old bottle with a fabulous logo.
Old books with charming covers are another of my favorites.  This one is particularly beautiful.  I love the soft muted colors.
Another powder box.  A pretty blue with a beautiful lady.
I am in love with this teal aqua color.  I can't get enough of it.  I bought this for the design on the front to give me some sign inspiration.
The cover and the front page read "New Orleans, The Paris of America."  How cool is that?  I love anything French and this is pretty close in my book.
Here is a fully intact box of vintage wallpaper border.
I found five of these vintage boxes with the bottles.  I'm crazy about the typography and the coloration.
Aren't these bottles fabulous?
This squirrel is off of a larger piece, but this is what was left and he is adorable.
Another vintage bottle with a stamped logo.
This is an old beauty consultant's case.  It's in great condition except the label on the opposite side of the box is torn, but still the case is wonderful.
This is the flip side.  I bought the coolest green dresser yesterday too and I didn't even get a photo and it sold today.  No complaints here.  That's why I'm in this crazy business is to sell all of these treasures.  Thanks for visiting.

What's Missing?

It's been a long day and I just want to put on my jammies and curl up with my Tivo.  So just a couple of things.  Don't forget about our first linky party coming your way this Friday.  Why do I say we?  I would never go this alone.  This is pretty much a no rules party.  We're not particular.  Just post something fun for the summer.  Movies, projects, traditions, recipes.  You name it.  We're happy to have you join us.

Now, even though I went to the flea market and found some fabulous things, I will share them later with you because I didn't even get any pics yet.

So here is the real question and the subject of my post today.  My father passed away on Friday.  He was only 83 but he lived longer than anyone would have expected him to live due to a serious problem with alcohol.  You see, my father did not raise me, my mother did, and although my mother and I did not see eye to eye all the time throughout our lives, I never lost respect for how hard it was for her to provide for me in an era when women were not single parents, were not executives for corporations and were not afraid to go it alone.  She managed to do all of these things.  I know she had to take my father to court many times to collect child support.  In my later adult years, he was always dutiful about sending me cards and calling on holidays and always told me how much he loved and missed me.  He only saw my children a handful of times although they are now in their 30s.  For the life of me, I can't dredge up one ounce of emotion for the loss of his life.  I'm not even sure why I'm wasting a blog post on him.  I am more concerned about my step sister's emotional state, because I know she is really in mourning.  He did raise her and she always stayed close in proximity to where he lived so they were very close.  He married her mother when she was four and she is now in her 50s.  On the flip side, I married a man that was completely opposite.  He's a real daddy to our two daughters and would do anything for them.  Since he is 11 years my senior, I'm pretty sure he felt like he was raising three daughters at times.  His fearless faithfullnes to us has never waivered in all the years I have known him.

Has anyone out there experienced anything like this?  Should I feel some sort of loss?  I am really trying, but it's just not there.  I have felt a deep sense of sadness when I have lost uncles and close family friends, but now there is just nothing but a blank.  I probably should not share anything so personal, but seriously this is a very strange feeling that I have.  I'll get back to my regular bloggy self tomorrow.  Perhaps I just need a good night' sleep.
