Fence Post Cross

Last week I shared the old wooden cross I found along with some of my other religious art and jewelry and maybe it's the time of year, but I seem drawn to old crosses and holy statuary.  I don't run across many garden crosses that are not outrageously expensive so I decided to make my own.
I went to Home Depot and purchased some wooden fence posts.  Each cross needs three posts.  The employee at Home Depot was kind enough to cut the posts for me.  The side pieces are 13 inches long from the tip of the post to the cut.  I then got some mending brackets to affix the two cross sides to the center post.
After we my husband made the structure of the cross, I painted them old white then dry brushed them with a light gray to put a little "wear" on them.  Then I rummaged through the junk treasures I had on hand and found four metal emblems to affix to the fronts of the crosses.
Now that they are completed, I set them in the garden to "ferment" if you will to add some patina and get them ready for spring garden sales.  In the meantime, I saved the rest of the scrap pieces of the fence posts that remained after everything was cut.  I'm making garden signs out of those, and I'll share them this week.

Thanks so much for visiting.

P.S. Yesterday I announced the winner of the Ramsign give-away.  Marilyn Gray, you are the winner!  Please contact me at little.miss.maggie@aol.com with your email address.

Frenchy Barrel Table

I wish I had taken before pictures of this table, but I didn't.  I bought it before Christmas and it make a wonderful Christmas tree stand to elevate our tree to give it height.  It was a wood table with a water damaged top.  My husband actually did all the work of sanding and painting.  I did add the appliques and that was my big input.
It came out very sweet indeed and it is already at the shop waiting for a new home.  Let's hear it for my handy helpful husband.
Thanks for stopping by.

P.S.  OMG!  I almost forgot to announce the winner of the Ramsign give-away.  And the winner is ..... Marilyn Gray.  Congratulations, Marilyn.  Thanks for joining the fun and being a follower.

Flower Power Retro Bench

I told you earlier in the week I hit the mother lode of benches at my last flea market visit.  Three in one day to be exact.  I'm trying to process them one by one to get them to the shop.  The first one was my primitive red bench and this is the second one.  My last photo in this post is the before.
The bench was already painted black so I had my husband freshen the black paint with a new coat.  This isn't an old piece so distressing isn't in the mix, just a refresh and re-do.  When I removed the gold and red tapestry fabric with the cute red ball fringe (somebody loved it) this retro 60's black and white flower power fabric is what was underneath.  I think it's kinda cute if you have the right decor so I'm going to try to sell it as is.  It's clean and fresh and now I can tackle bench number 3.
You can see the bench as I found it wedged behind my piano bench which is now red.  Thanks for visiting.  This is a lesson in not making more work for myself than I already have.

Ottoman Makeover

Sunday I sold at the Topanga Vintage Market with two of my dealer friends.  One of them was going to take this little foot stool to the flea market because it had not sold at the store we are both dealers at.  It really is a very cute little piece with a nubby oatmeal colored upholstery but it was sort of plain looking.
You can see here what great shape it was in, but it wasn't very exciting.
I insisted she let me apply one of my Frenchy grain sack stencils to it to give it a little more pizazz.  I will confess the nubby fabric was a challenge, but the whole makeover took only 20 minutes.  Let's just call this week my bench makeover week starting with Friday's primitive red bench that I used this same stencil on, then this one, and I have two more little benches to work on.  The others will have a different twist.
I took it back to the shop today, and I do hope it will sell now.  Thanks for visiting.

Aqua Coffee Table

About a month ago I found a chair on Pinterest that I fell in love with and then I found this blue vintage coffee table that I thought I would try to copy the design on.
My table surface was a lot larger than the chair seat so the design appears much sparser on my table top, but I do like the look of the table with the new design.
This was the chair I fell in love with.  You can see the design is very detailed but it's on a much smaller surface.
I added an applique to add a little more detail.
I used some crackle medium to distress the surface.
Over all I am pretty pleased with the makeover and the finished look of the table reminds me of the Italian Florentine look that was so popular in the '60s.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I'm linking this up to Debbie Doo's Copy Cat Challenge.
And don't forget about the Ramsign give-away.  I will pick the winner on January 31.

Red and Black Tablescape

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you my Little Birdie tablescape.  This is a variation of the same theme only I used these bold red and gray bowls from Home Goods and my red charger plates.  Home Goods sure didn't have much in the way of table linens but they had some beautiful tableware.

This is a great look for the season being that it's Valentine's Day and all.

It's simple and elegant at the same time, and if you remember my other tablescape, this was wrapping paper I used as a table runner.  I don't know why, but I think this is so much fun.  Much better than a paper tablecloth like we used to buy in the package for picnics.  Now that just gave me a crazy thought, a picnic table dressed in gorgeous wrapping paper.  Very romantic indeed.
I love this whole tone on tone look and it looks wonderful with this crackled pot with the beautiful French graphic.
Thanks for visiting.  Don't forget about the Ramsign give-away.  It ends on Wednesday evening.  Bon Appetit!
