French Script Paper Lanterns

I've been wanting to do a project with paper lanterns for quite some time since summer is right around the corner.  This is exactly what I had in mind to do.  Well, Friday on my way home from work, I stopped  in at my favorite garden shop and what did I see?  Lanterns just like what I had pictured in my mind.  Kind of creepy.   Someone has been reading my thoughts!  Needless to stay, I stopped at the party store on my way home and picked up a package of 3 paper lanterns.  They were white.  Total cost for the 3 lanterns including tax was about $7.  I came home and started printing my French script typography invoices on tissue paper and set about covering the three lanterns.  For directions on the homemade tissue paper click here.

Now my lanterns were white and I like to use the natural tissue paper for a more antique look, but white would look fine too depending on your needs.  It was cold out last night, and I didn't want to brave the cold so I set up my trivets and photographed these in my kitchen so you could see what they look like lit up.

I have shared all three of these French invoices on my blog.  I am pleased with the way they turned out.

Since I didn't have a light strand, this is how I lit them.  I used two battery candles per zippy snack bag.  I hung the bag inside the lantern on the little hook they provided.  They illuminated quite well.  Each lantern took me about an hour's labor and I used the spray glue.  I think something like this would be great for Halloween.  How about a haunted Versailles theme?

Chippy and Glorious Adirondack Chairs

Aren't these Adirondack chairs oozing with vintage charm?  I love the wear on them and the beautiful toile pillows.  The worn paint shows how comfy and well loved these chairs have been.
The color just screams "lake house."  Their size is perfect for an afternoon on the deck.  Let's hear it for summer breezes and fresh lemonade!

Easter Clip Art

Instead of doing typography this week, I thought I would share some Easter clip art.  Here are four images from my files.

This artist bunny is so sweet.

This portrait bunny is adorable.

Not sure why, but this year I am loving purple and this basket certainly does the trick.

Another portrait bunny.  This one is wearing a blue cap.  Cute!

Hope you crafty types can use these images to make something fabulous.  Thanks for visiting.

Paris Market Savannah Part 3

Here we are again for day three of The Paris Market in Savannah.  I just can't get enough of my memories of this beautiful shop.  It's really a good thing I do not live near here or I would have to visit at least once a week.  This is a two-story shop.  This is the stairway descending to the lower floor.  The side of the staircase is lined with stacks of old books.  In fact, there are stacks of books everywhere in this store.  I usually do not buy random encyclopedias that are one to five volumes but after visiting this store, I can see how the reds and greens of the old encyclopedias make perfect decorating accents.

At the bottom of the stairs is this bicycle built for two.  I love the red color.  Of course, I am partial to red and love this tandem bike.

This table setting is gorgeous.  I particularly loved this whole room.  It was very inviting.  Made me want to be invited for dinner.  I called this table the pallet table.  The top looks like pallet lumber.  I love the formality of the table mixed with the simple design of the furniture.

Now I am almost embarrassed to show you this photo because it is the inspiration for my table top chalkboard I showed you this past weekend.  This was my inspiration.  This one is way better than my feeble attempt, but you can easily see how I could get inspiration from this whole setting.

How about this santo?  She truly does look like a saint, doesn't she?

Here is a closer look at this beauty!

And alas, our tour today is ending.  Don't worry.  I have more to show you.  Eventually I will get to the other parts of Savannah, but you will have to indulge me for a while longer.  Yes, I took more photos, but you will have to tune in next week to see more.  Thanks for visiting.  Adieu!

Picnic Ant Blocks

Before I start this post, a brief public service announcement.  On Friday I perceived a slight problem with my blog.  I went to the help icon, posted my question and inserted my email address.  This is an email address I have had for 15 years and I use it for my business.  This morning I checked my email and I had received approximately 2,000 emails over the weekend.  Seriously annoying.  I have deleted them all and have blocked anything from coming in with the word "blogger" or from "blogger."  This may or may not cause a problem.  In the meantime, the email I use to respond to comments and for link parties is now having a problem and I cannot respond to any emails I receive.  Long story short, I now have a new email address at littlemissmaggie@yahoo.com.  So please beware of giving the "help" people your email.  It is not private!  Now on with the post.

This started out to be another Graphics Fairy post and I did use her image for this, but then I decided to do a post on what I was actually packaging.  I found these adorable blocks at a neighborhood sale on Saturday.  I brought them home and showed my daughter.  Because she works with handicapped children, I thought she would enjoy seeing these.  She insists they are a puzzle and I do believe she is correct.
If you are really crafty, I think these blocks could easily be duplicated with some permanent marker.  Lay out your wood (even dominoes would work) and make your ant parade.  These are pretty easy to draw and then turn your blocks and make some more parades and then again and again.  These would be great at a picnic and the kids could play games with them and see how long they could get the trail to last.
As always, I appreciate your visits.  Please stop by again soon.

Pretty Finger Towels

I should call my Monday posts Graphics Fairy Monday because I always do a project with her images on Monday.  Here are some pretty little finger towels I made out of one of her perfume label graphics.  I found these towels at Home Goods.  They are  a fairly small scale towel and are perfect for a powder room or guest bathroom.  These sweet little towels have almost a little waffle pattern to them which gives them a little more dimension than a flat towel.
Here I used a few of my own vintage perfume bottles.   The towels look perfect with them and they complement each other beautifully.
I found the towels in a pale yellow color as well as the white.  I used the same label.  It looks great on both colors.  Very vintage and feminine.

To recreate these towels, use Avery light transfer paper.  Select your Graphics Fairy image and be sure to reverse your image on the copier.  Follow the directions for doing the transfer.  I got four transfers to one sheet.   Super easy.  Thanks for visiting and have a happy Monday

The Purple Bunnies

My daughter and I stopped in at Tuesday Morning a couple of weeks ago and they had these adorable purple bunnies that I purchased to decorate my space at the shop.  I wanted to use them at home before I took them in.  We just happened to have these two lamps in the dining room with purple silk shades that I found in my travels.  They don't match a thing in our house, but I really like them so they stayed.
I stopped at Trader Joe's today on my way home and they still had some pretty bouquets for spring so I picked up a couple.  I love the way stock smells.  It reminds me of spring and I also love the texture of it with the green stems.
I have just a few pieces of purple toile so I pulled those out to use.
These bunnies are really cute.  Too bad I have to say goodbye to them tomorrow, but they have a job to do at the shop.
I was saving this beautiful painting for Mother's Day and I may bring her back for another vignette.  I picked her up at the flea market a couple of months ago.  She is exquisite even though her  canvas has a slight tear.  I would love to give her a name.  She is so stunning.  Does anyone have any ideas?  If you do, please let me know.  Thanks for stopping by.  Happy Sunday everyone.
